St-Léonard Toyota
5800 Metropolitan Boulevard East, Saint-Leonard, QC, H1S1A7For electric vehicle drivers, winter brings one common question: why does fast charging take longer when it is cold? The answer has to do with battery temperature, and the 2027 Toyota bZ comes ready with a solution. Every grade includes a battery preconditioning system that Toyota designed to keep charge times consistent in colder weather.
Rather than a technical deep-dive, this guide follows a typical winter charging day in the 2027 bZ. You will see when to charge at home, how preconditioning fits into a road trip and which built-in tools make public charging easier.
The simplest winter routine starts in your driveway or garage. Every 2027 bZ comes with a dual-voltage charging cable for Level 1 and Level 2 charging, plus an 11 kW onboard charger for AC charging.
Plugging in overnight on Level 2 means you wake up to a full battery. Home charging also avoids waiting at a public station in the cold, which is a big comfort on a January night.
Tip: Make home charging your default, and save fast chargers for longer trips.
The bZ makes cold mornings easier to face. Every grade comes with heated front seats and a SofTex-trimmed heated steering wheel. The Limited adds heated rear seats, ventilated front seats and a front radiant foot-and-leg heater.
Remote Connect is standard with a five-year trial, so you can stay connected to your bZ through the Toyota app. A windshield wiper de-icer and rain-sensing wipers come standard too, helping you clear frost and snow before you go.
Here is where preconditioning earns its place. A cold battery accepts charge more slowly, so a DC fast-charging stop can take longer on a frigid day. Battery preconditioning warms the battery to a good temperature for DC fast charging before you plug in.
Toyota says the system enables consistent charge times in colder weather. Under ideal conditions, DC fast charging can take the bZ from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.
There are two ways to activate it:
The 2027 bZ uses the North American Charging System (NACS) port for access to most high-speed chargers across North America. New for 2027, every bZ also comes with CCS and J1772 charging adapters, so you can plug into a wider range of public stations.
Plug & Charge is standard too. At compatible stations, it handles automatic billing identification, which makes a cold-night charging stop quicker and simpler.
The 2027 bZ offers two batteries across three grades:
|

The AWD grades add X-MODE with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes, plus Grip Control. Those tools help the bZ find traction on snowy, slippery roads.
Does every 2027 bZ have battery preconditioning? Yes. It is standard on the XLE FWD, XLE AWD and Limited AWD.
Do I need a special charger at home? The included dual-voltage cable handles Level 1 and Level 2 charging. Level 2 needs an appropriate 240V outlet.
Can I use non-NACS public chargers? Yes. Every 2027 bZ includes CCS and J1772 adapters.
Will winter affect my range? Weather, accessory use and driving habits can all affect range. A nightly home charge and a bit of extra planning keep winter trips easy.
