5800 Metropolitan Boulevard East, Saint-Leonard, QC, H1S1A7The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander debuts as a groundbreaking addition to Toyota's midsize SUV lineup, blending performance and efficiency in a package that caters to a wide range of driving preferences.
This first-ever Grand Highlander offers three distinct powertrains, each designed to deliver a unique blend of power and efficiency. The standard gas engine provides a robust 265 horsepower with a brisk 0-100 km/h time of 7.7 seconds. For those prioritizing efficiency, the hybrid powertrain offers 243 horsepower with a 0-100 km/h time of 8.8 seconds. The pinnacle of performance is the Hybrid MAX powertrain, making the Grand Highlander Toyota's most powerful midsize SUV to date with 362 horsepower, 400 pound-feet of torque, and an impressive 0-100 km/h time of just 6.5 seconds. This top-tier powertrain also boasts a significant towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.
Fuel efficiency is a key aspect of the Grand Highlander's design. The gas powertrain achieves a manufacturer-estimated combined fuel consumption of 10.0 L/100 km, while the hybrid version improves this to 7.0 L/100 km. The Hybrid MAX offers a balance of power and efficiency with a consumption of 8.8 L/100 km. To enhance the driving experience, all three powertrains feature three Drive Modes (Sport, Eco, Normal) and, for the gas AWD and Hybrid MAX models, a Multi-Terrain Select with three modes (Mud & Sand, Rock & Dirt, Snow) for versatile on- and off-road capability.
Every 2024 Grand Highlander comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD). The gas model features Dynamic Torque Control AWD for active torque distribution and improved traction and stability. The hybrid model's Electronic On-Demand AWD provides excellent fuel efficiency and stable performance under various conditions. The Hybrid MAX pairs Full-Time Electronic AWD with a six-speed automatic transmission, offering a dynamic driving experience with enhanced rear-wheel power for a feeling of rear-wheel-drive maneuverability and responsive acceleration.
The Grand Highlander's design is both distinctive and functional. The exterior, inspired by the Highlander but with a unique twist, features a trapezoidal, hammerhead front grille and sharp rear bumper, complemented by available 20” wheels. The Hybrid MAX variant further distinguishes itself with standard exposed dual exhaust tips. Functionality is not sacrificed for style; wide rear doors ensure easy access to the third row, and the low hood line and large side glass windows enhance visibility, particularly in urban environments.
The interior of the Grand Highlander is thoughtfully designed, with a focus on spaciousness and quality. The instrument panel, adorned with soft padding and available wood-effect ornamentation, seamlessly integrates with the door trim, emphasizing the cockpit's width. The centre console features independent armrests for added convenience. High-quality stitchwork adds a touch of modern elegance. The Grand Highlander offers leather-trimmed seats with power adjustments in the Limited and Platinum models, and the Hybrid MAX features Ultrasuede® and leather-trimmed seats with bronze accents.
Versatility and convenience are at the heart of the Grand Highlander's design. Built on a modified TNGA-K platform with a wider track and longer wheelbase than the current Highlander, it provides confident handling and remarkable interior space. The SUV is suited for various needs, from short trips to long journeys, with ample cargo capacity and thoughtful storage solutions throughout the cabin. With the second and third-row seats folded down, it offers a staggering 2,775 litres (97.5 cubic feet) of space, ensuring that the Grand Highlander is ready for any adventure.
